Little Road Trip

Today I went on a road trip. I went to look at snow, deer, and get a cheeseburger.
1st the snow. We had about 22 inches of snow in the last 4 days and wind from the north. Today the wind changed and came from the south and made wonderful snow sculptures in the already made snowdrifts. In a few places it looks like a bald eagle’s profile. In other places it looks like cliffs. Mother nature is really giving us some beauty after some ugly days.
Next, I went to try get a picture of the deer gathered south of Lehr. There was a herd of maybe 300 or more. I saw them last week one day real close to the road. They looked like cattle out grazing in the summer. They peppered all the little hill tops. But, today they were gathered down in a low spot so I couldn’t get a very good picture, but I hope you can see them –where were they last fall? {they’re here now Mitch}.
And last...the cheeseburger. I have tested cheeseburgers all across North & South Dakota. I’ve eaten cheap ones and expensive ones. Lehr has the best anywhere! 1st They have a toasted bun. 2nd They have a juicy burger. 3rd They have melty cheese. 4th They are served with pickles & mustard. It doesn’t seems to matter who cooks, they have had 3 different owners in the last 20 years. They are the best!
This sounds like a sales pitch for North Dakota –beautiful sights, wonderful wildlife, and Great food. Well that was my little road trip.

Very convenient for them. Why aren't they tough enough to show up during deer season? Wimps. As for the cheeseburger, I remember going there when working for the railroad. If my memory serves me, they are delicious! Now that I think about it, that is all I remember about the railroad, food. Dumplings in Fredonia, burgers in Lehr, breakfast in Kulm. Interesting...

Mitch, I have a lot of memories of food but that is not the only thing I remember. I seem to have these burning memories of raising track in 100 degree heat, changing hundreds of ties each day, cleaning up after a derailment, and trying to stuff sod under ties by Napoleon so the train could get through. I say sod because there was no rock. Oh and the other memory I have is me working on Jim's crew and you working on Robert's crew. Maybe that is why I have so many memories of working and you have so many memories of food. Ahh just like the ol' Bears Vikes rivalry. Even back "in the day" the two crews would point fingers and wonder who ended their day earliest and who worked hardest during the day. It never ends. :))

Hey Chad, I think it is cut and dry, Jim's crew worked harder and longer. Don't blame me for realizing when I got a good thing going :) We thought "derailment" was code for "let's meet in Monango and then get some lunch" weird.
