The Firsts& Lasts
I recently read a child’s book "Let me hold you longer" by Karen Kingsbury. It was about a mother remembering her children’s firsts. Like their first words or first steps but also their lasts. Like their last football game or their last lift me up and hug me mommy.
I have my own list of memories of my children’s firsts and lasts.
Chad’s first day away at college or his last elementary track meet.
Mitch’s first time on a horse (that reared) or his last moments as a single man.
The first time I saw Cindy holding her own first born child
The last time Curty wrestled at the state wrestling match, and he lost.
The first time I saw Rubin eat right out of the garden or the last thing I said to him when he left for his mom’s house.
The day of baby Hayley’s first professional photograph wearing a dress she received from my ex-in-laws.
The first time I saw Ronnie playing pool at the bar and the last time I saw him giggle over noodle soup with his mother.
Things I will never forget and things the children and my husband don’t even remember, at least they don’t remember like I do. The books a cute read for young children, and grandma’s.

Dammit ma, I'm in study hall with a bunch of HS kids and teared up because of the Grandma/Ronnie soup one. I've got more later but for now, shame on you. I can't be tearing up in front of these kids.
i felt the same way about the grandma esther/grandpa ron soup one. i am about to experience a first...carson's first birthday party. should be interesting. a first of many.
We need to as a family remember people who were special and are now gone so we never forget them...tear up or giggle, but remember. It's important.
Paige's first swear word - taught to her by Kristy. How I didn't get hung with that one I'll never know.
First pictures we took after the boys were born. One screamed the entire time we tried to take the pic.
The first time Paige and the boys rode their bike without training wheels.
The first time I stepped into a classroom to teach. Along with that my first morning as a HS Principal.
The last day we spent with Alicks.
The last time I remember riding the Ol' Gray.
My first night in a very hot and unfamiliar Missouri.
The first book I read cover to cover. (Tom Sawyer)
The last time I remember visiting Grandma Brandner and dunking cookies in milk.
The first car ride home with Paige.
The first time I got a "comment" on my blog. That was a big thing for me!
"last moments as a single man" I hope you mean you enjoyed the wedding... Some of my firsts and lasts. First day at college. Last basketball game. First sight of Kya, I was so overwhelmed I literally couldn't grab "the scissors". Last days of school, they were the best. First home. LAST rental property. First time my sister gave me a sister-like hug. Last time I saw Jen's Gpa Bup. (He held on just long enough to see Kya born) First meal with Jen's parents (not a flattering moment). Last mile of a marathon............ it never ends! First Christmas with Jen. Last time at Dad's place in Barnesville, Jack. First time I cruised main. Last book I read, Vince Flynn, Consent to Kill. I could go on for days.
