DreamDreamDream

Sunday my friend Carole and I went to a movie "Ready to Launch" staring Matthew McCanahey and Sarah Jessica Parker. A cute and funny movie. And oh that Matthew McCanahey with those pearly whites, his quick smile, those baby blues. Well girls you know what I mean. Well after the 4 o’clock matinee was done, Carole and I went to the local coffee shop. We were giggling about that movie and the cute Matthew McCanahey. We both agreed that he was going to be in our dreams tonight.
Well, I did have a dream, but I didn’t dream about Matthew McCanahey. AND I didn’t dream about Terry Bradshaw the ex-football player. (Who was naked in a couple scenes in the movie.) I dreamed about Andy Rooney, the guy from 60 Minutes. I’m going to have a talk with my dream fairy! Of all the nerve, sending me an older, chubby, grey haired guy with bushy eye brows. There must have been some sort of mix up!
So I got up out of bed, hopped to the bathroom with my bad foot. I flipped on the light. I squinted as I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I was older, and grayer, and heavier than I last remembered. Do you think my eye brows need plucking???

3rd Generation "Wonder Horse"

Yup, here's a picture of my twin brother and I at 1 year old. Do you see the cute, new Birthday gift. Yup, it's the same "wonder horse" that my granddaughter Medora is riding with her cowboy hat in a previous entry.

I have vivid memories of riding this horse so hard and fast that I could get it to move across the floor. My brother really is the owner of the old boy today. He is a 50 something bachelor that has no children or grandchildren. A few years ago he was kind enough to let me borrow the "wonder horse" to give my grandchildren a few rides around the house and down the same memory lane that he and I shared years earlier.

I know that my sister has the same memories of trotting this "wonder horse" that my brother and I have, and now with many thanks to my Aunt Jean we know just who got the horse in the first place.

I have seen a horse like this, in the past few years trotting in an antique shop in Michigan, but he got away. Darn, we could use another one. Then we could have hitched up a team and taken a whole wagon load of kids trotting across the house. That would have been great!

Another "Slice of life"

It was my high school graduation day, May 27, 1971. I remember that day for more than one reason.

Well it's graduation - I'm 17 years old with a new "store bought" white dress with red flowers stitched down the front. I have my maroon graduation gown and hat in my hands. I'm standing in the hall outside the gym with my class mates putting on our hats and gowns. I suddenly noticed how quiet it seemed to get.I turned to look at the only other activity in the hall. A young man walking towards me wearing dark pants and sweater with a white turtle neck shirt, his short blonde hair bouncing as he walked. He had a big grin on his face and sparkling green eyes. Wow, I though, could it be? Was it? Yes it was. My boyfriend of nearly 4 years, fresh home from Vietnam.

All I remember is the murmur of my friends, and the cheering I was doing on the inside. He's home....he's really home. His 2nd tour of duty in Vietnam is over. His army duty is over and he's home for good this time. In back of my mind I remember him saying some 2 2/1 year earlier "The only way I'll be back is in a wooden box."This was one time I was glad he was wrong."

I new he was coming home, I just didn't know what day. I'm forever grateful it was my graduation day.

Spinning Cows

It all started when Grandpa said "tomarrow we'll go for a spin to look at the new baby cows." Well the next day came and little Medora Jayne asked Grandpa "can we go and spin the cows now?"
After a lot of giggles and explaining off they went. They went to check for new baby cows. Not finding any, they took a detour at the Sales Barn to eat french fries, gab with the cowboys, and watch cattle sell.
And then it happened. The auctioneer took a break in his chant and said "spin'em around so we can see'em."
I heard all about the french fries, the cowboys, and the spinning cows. This time Medora Jayne was doing all the explaining ..... What could I say????
